Get to Know Your People
I got the letter done and stuffed and it's going out this weekend. Getting addresses, determining who to send the letters to, it's all a tedious process, and administrative things are not my favorite. But I know it's a necessary step, it's good discipline but most of all it's allowing people into our world, it's inviting them to pray and give.
I do think that in the future doing this online is the way to go. A blog or website for updates, pictures, news, PayPal (online giving) for people to give online with their cc, etc.
I think that to establish a relationship with the people we send the letter out to is very important. A friend who went to a missions trip last year, did a dessert before she went on her trip. I was there, and 10-12 people showed up, met, talked, asked questions and got to know each other. She raised double her need and that wasn't even the point. Relationships are very important.
Try to find ways to get to know the people that you write letters to. Calls, blogs, desserts, emails, one on one, etc. Having this letter go beyond asking for help, and building a genuine relationship with them, will make us all feel more connected.
