Russia Camp 2004

These are pictures from the SOAR international projects from 2004. SOAR is the missions group we are working with. We will be doing similar things and working with similar youth and children.

The image of the older gentleman with the young orphan child moves my soul.

Passport Up to Date

Today, Holven (a fellow missionary to Russia) and I went to get our passports renewed. DONE!

Pictures, waiting in line, filling out forms, paying the fees, it was a long tedious process but we're done. Now, we have to work on getting our Russian Visa paper work filled out and turned in.

This is hard but a great way to learn discipline, courage and patience.

Get to Know Your People

I got the letter done and stuffed and it's going out this weekend. Getting addresses, determining who to send the letters to, it's all a tedious process, and administrative things are not my favorite. But I know it's a necessary step, it's good discipline but most of all it's allowing people into our world, it's inviting them to pray and give.

I do think that in the future doing this online is the way to go. A blog or website for updates, pictures, news, PayPal (online giving) for people to give online with their cc, etc.

I think that to establish a relationship with the people we send the letter out to is very important. A friend who went to a missions trip last year, did a dessert before she went on her trip. I was there, and 10-12 people showed up, met, talked, asked questions and got to know each other. She raised double her need and that wasn't even the point. Relationships are very important.

Try to find ways to get to know the people that you write letters to. Calls, blogs, desserts, emails, one on one, etc. Having this letter go beyond asking for help, and building a genuine relationship with them, will make us all feel more connected.

Welcome to David T's Russia Blog

What is a blog? A blog is an online journal. This will help me create an online relationship with all of you, my friends and partners as I and our team of 12 from Bethany travels to Russia this summer to work with orphans and do a summer camp.

Please leave a comment, share your missions and travel experiences with me, ask questions.

I will post often as I prepare to leave July 15th and will post from Russia to keep you all informed.

Please let me know if you're here, so I can keep track of our new Russia online community.

Much love,

DavidT
